Preston Haywood Overton

Preston Haywood Overton, 89, of Camden, died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock after a brief illness. He was born March 22, 1925 in Tulip, Arkansas, the son of William T. and Mary Ellen Lawrence Overton. He was retired from Fairview School where he was the Maintenance Supervisor. He served his country from December 10, 1946 to April 20, 1948 as a Corporal in the Army. He was a member of Cullendale First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Syblene (Syble) Fite Overton; son, Rick Overton and wife, Nell of Camden; daughter, Rhonda Jackson of Conway, Ark..; son, Randy Overton and wife, Ruth of Dunlap, Tenn.; granddaughter, Mary Ellen McGuire of Little Rock, Ark.; grandsons Keith Martindill and wife, Amy of Parkers Chapel, Ark., Josh Elam of Germantown, Tenn., Eric Elam of Loveland, OH; great grandchildren, Josh and Connor Martindill of Parkers Chapel, Ark.; brother Curtis Overton and wife, Hazel of Fordyce, Ark.; sisters-in-law Freda Overton and Billie Overton of Malvern, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Roy, Ray, Dewitt (Dude), Cecil, and George (Glendee) Overton; sisters Ione (Onie) Leath, Opal Overton, Gertrude (Gerty) Huffman, and Lilla Mae Harrison. Services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Proctor Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Merritt and Bro. Clay Doss officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the funeral home.
