Joyce Ely Gudmundson

Joyce Ely Gudmundson "A Star Shines Brighter" of Hot Springs Village departed for Heaven on March 15, 2014, and will be missed so very, very much by her daughters. Daughter, Jodi Ward and her husband, Walt of Ohio and their three sons, Steve Ward of Colorado; Brandt Ward and his wife, Diana with their two children, Briana and Max; and Shaine Ward and his son Parker - all of Ohio. Daughter, Nanci Gudmundson of Little Rock and her two children; daughter, Jennifer Swanson and her son, Aaron Bostwick; son, Jason Swanson and his wife Carla of Tennessee with their four children: sons, Riley and Braxton; and stepdaughters, Shania and Cheyenne Brush. Daughter, Debe Ridgon and husband Bobby of Conway and their two children: son, Kasey Rigdon and his daughter Gillian; daughter, Sarah Hiegel and her husband Tommy of Conway with their daughters, Cecilia and Ellie, and son, Ethan. Joyce attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. where she was a cheerleader – so, of course, in 1942 she married the star quarterback of the football team – Scotty, who departed for Heaven Aug.17, 2012. Joyce was a member of Soroptimist International and Child Guidance Guild while affiliated with Southern Counties Management Company in California, and she was a long time member of Maumelle Country Club. Joyce and Scotty very much enjoyed their retirement in Hot Springs Village staying active playing golf, cards and dancing. There will be a private family graveside celebration of life at Cedarvale Cemetery in Hot Springs Village. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity or to University of Arkansas Medical Science Hospital (UAMS) in Little Rock. Special thanks to the caring personnel with National Park Hospital and Gentiva Hospice. The game might be over, but we will always hear her cheer!
