William Witherspoon McCrary

William Witherspoon McCrary, III, died on May 4, 2013, in Charleston, W.Va. He was born in 1929 in Lonoke, Ark., to the late William W. McCrary Jr. and Marjorie Walker McCrary. Bill graduated from Lonoke High School and earned bachelor degrees from Davidson College and Morris Harvey College. Following his graduation from Davidson, he served in the United States Air Force and retired from the West Virginia Air National Guard in 1984. He was retired from the West Virginia Public Service Commission. A longtime member of Village Chapel Presbyterian Church, he served as a Deacon, a Ruling Elder, Usher, Assistant Treasurer and Sunday School secretary. He was an avid stamp collector, reader, and loved his family, crossword puzzles, history, nature, music and beagles. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn Hickman McCrary; daughter, Elizabeth McCrary Bedini and husband Anthony; son, George William McCrary and wife Carol; granddaughters, Samantha Susan McCrary and Sarah Elizabeth Bedini, all of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Ann M. McSwain, of Lonoke, Ark.; and brother, Charles W. McCrary and wife Jane of Memphis, Tenn. A service of Witness to the Resurrection was held at Village Chapel Presbyterian Church, Kanawha City, W.Va., on May 18. Burial will take place at the Lonoke Cemetery, Lonoke, Ark. on March 29, 2014, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. William Branch officiating. The service will be followed by a reception at the Trimble-McCrary House, 516 Jefferson, Lonoke.
