Ruben O. Goss, 89, of Conway, Ark. departed this world on March 27, 2014 for a better place we all hope for. He was born on September 28, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, Ark., to the late Alvin and Francis Strickland Goss. Ruben joined the United Sates Army in 1943, serving in World War two and the Korean Conflict; he discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1953. He worked for the Conway Police Department from 1957 to 1977, serving as Police Chief for nine of those years, and then as county clerk from 1979 to 1989. Ruben was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ of 59 years where he served as a deacon and elder for seventeen years, the American Legion, Arkansas Municipal Police Association and the V.F.W. His favorite hobby of all was spending time fishing, followed by gardening, spending time with his friends, and enjoying life. Rubens great loves in life were his family, church, military, and law enforcement. He is survived by his sons; Richard Goss (Gloria), of North Little Rock, Bobby Goss, of Conway, daughter; Terri L. Bartley (Karl), of Conway, granddaughter; Lori Beth Heslep (Clay), of Vilonia, grandson; Jeremy Clint Bartley, of Conway, two great-grandsons; Hunter Andrew Heslep and Tyler W. Heslep, of Vilonia, numerous nieces, nephews, church family members, and loving friends. Ruben is also preceded in death by his loving wife Mary L. Goss of 69 years, one son; Randy Goss, one sister; Irene Walls, and two brothers; Charlie and W.T. "Bill" Goss. A Funeral Service will be held in his honor on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Ark., with burial to follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
