Dr. Harry Dee Starnes, of Clinton, Arkansas passed away at the age of 72 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock on May 3rd, 2014. He was born and raised in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Harry graduated from the University of Arkansas. After obtaining his medical degree, he served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon in Vietnam. He practiced medicine for over 40 years in many parts of the country and returned to his home state to settle in Clinton, Arkansas in 1993. In Clinton, Dr. Starnes helped build the new regional medical facility to serve the people of North Central Arkansas. Dr. Starnes was a man of deep reflection, passion and integrity with an enduring sense of purpose and compassion for his patients, his colleagues, his friends and his family. His loving kindness and healing hands will live on in all that he touched. He made a difference in people's lives and he will be missed by many. Dr. Starnes is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters, Jennie Starnes Campbell Hitchcock (Alan) of Knoxville, Tenn. and Sarah Starnes Baguley (Chris) of Little Rock, Ark.; sons, Michael Starnes of Orlando, Fla. and Dr. Harrison Benjamin Starnes (Katy) of Little Rock, Ark.; sister Sandra Sue Starnes of Little Rock, Ark.; and grandchildren, Heather Campbell of Knoxville, Tenn., Harrison Michael Starnes of Orlando, Fla., and Alexander James Starnes of Little Rock, Ark. Louise and Joe Starnes of Walnut Ridge, Ark. and Bob Starnes of Booneville, Ark. preceded Dr. Starnes in death. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in memory of Dr. Starnes to Van Buren County Library, 119 Shake Rag Road, Clinton, Arkansas 72031 or the Clinton United Methodist Church. Memorial Service 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Clinton United Methodist Church with Pastor George Odell officiating.
