Lela M. Duke

Lela Duke, 78, of Cabot, formerly of West Helena was called to Heaven on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. With her loved ones holding her hands, she peacefully met the Lord. She was born in Viola, Arkansas on November 20, 1935 to the late Harlin and Ruby Hammond. She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, her sister, Pat Duke, and brothers, Paul Dean Hammond and Michael Hammond. In her passing, Lela left behind her husband of 51 years, Bill Duke, children; Angela Robertson of Cabot, William B. Ray of West Helena, Tara Brown of Ward, and Melody Rogers and husband Mark of West Helena. Lela was also blessed with six grandchildren; Keith Robertson Jr. and wife Lacy, Brooke Robertson, Haylee Jones and husband Brian, Zach Brown, Baxter Drennon and wife Allison, and Christopher Rogers, five great-grandchildren; Kaleb Miller, Cache Robertson, Parker Jones, Peiper Jones, and Anna Leigh Drennon, four sisters; JoAnn Grant, Barbara McAlister, Sheila Greer, and Tammy Hall, brother; Larry Hammond and wife Barbra, two sisters-in-law, JoNell Jones and Kathy Keith and husband Kenneth, and a host of nieces and nephews. Lela was a Christian woman with the heart of an angel. She devoted her life to her husband and family. Throughout all the years that Lela spent on this earth, she was the steadying influence in all of her family's accomplishments. Lela guided, provided, and loved unconditionally. Her spirit will live with those whose lives she touched forever. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
