Karen (Kari-Anne) Hayes Martin, 60, of Hamburg, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 23, 2014. Growing up in Hot Springs, she was active in Girl Scouts, church youth groups and High School Chorus. She attended Henderson State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in History. She taught elementary school in Urbana for one year and she worked for Hamburg Schools and Forest Echoes Technical Institute in Crossett for 18 years, serving as elementary teacher and librarian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg since 1981. Before her health declined; she served her church in Children's Choir, Vacation Bible School, Adult Choir and as the May flower Committee Chairman. She ran the Band Stand at Hamburg High School for basketball and football games for over 20 years. She was an avid needlepoint and plastic canvas artist and she loved visiting with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Irving Joseph & Marian Cole Hayes; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Marty Martin; a son, Jeff Martin; a daughter, Tarah Pamplin and husband, Robbie, all of Hamburg; six grandchildren; and a foster sister, Marilyn Snyder of Jonesboro. Funeral services are 4 p.m., Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, Ark. 71646.
