Emma Amelia Alvina Lemgo Johnson, 98, of Stuttgart passed away at her home Monday, May 26, 2014. She was born Sept. 5, 1915, in the Stahley Community east of Stuttgart, the only child of Fred and Amelia Rubach Lemgo. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Elvis Ray (E.R.) Johnson. Emma was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Emma's life was centered around being a wife, mother and grandmother. She tirelessly supported her family and defended them, good or bad, through any crises that occurred. She prepared daily meals well into her 90's and took turns making everyone's favorite dessert. The family laughed at her most risqué phrase "oh, pooh" and again when she would help out by picking up, chauffeuring or babysitting the grandkids after school controlling them only with a fly-swatter or goose wing. In her spare time, Emma enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Emma is survived by her three children, Jimmy R. Johnson and wife Mary of Stuttgart, Bonnie Newkirk and husband Dale of DeValls Bluff and Delores Putt Bunyard and husband Louis of Stuttgart; nine grandchildren, Donna Johnson Galloway, Dwayne Johnson, Scott Johnson, Chris Newkirk, Brad Newkirk, Trilby Newkirk Shelman, Eric Newkirk, Koby Putt Ritter and Jeremy Putt; and 22 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, in St. John's fellowship hall. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Don White with long-time family friend Ray Vester assisting, will follow at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris Newkirk, Brad Newkirk, Eric Newkirk, Dwayne Johnson and Scott Johnson, and great-grandson, Nicholas Johnson. The family requests memorials be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 205 E. Fifth St., Stuttgart, Ark. 72160, or the donor's choice. Please go to www.turpinco.com to sign the online guestbook.
