Leon Charles Vines, age 72, of Norman, entered his eternal home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. He was born January 11, 1942 on Polk Creek near Norman, the son of Loyd Jerome Vines and Lila Warren Vines. On May 7, 1960, he married his sweetheart, Vonda Morphew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lois Ann Vines Cogburn. Leon loved his church and community. He was a member of the Norman United Methodist Church where he hosted a weekly Bible study for men in his home. He served as a Montgomery County Justice of the Peace and was a member of the Caddo Hills School Board. He owned and operated the Texaco Station in Norman and then Vines Pulpwood and Logging in Norman and Amity for over 35 years. After retirement, Leon farmed cattle and he and Vonda enjoyed traveling, but most of all he cherished the time spent with his children and their families. Leon is survived by his wife, Vonda Vines of Norman; his sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Peggy Vines of Norman and Richard and Beth Vines of Glenwood; his grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon and Candice, Jennifer, Patrick, Nicole and Jon, and Ethan; his great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Blakley, Leighton, Lillie, Anniston and Jazmine; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pam Vines of Amity; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Scott of West, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Rev. Chris Hemund and Rev. Will Bradford officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Langley Hall Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Scott, Richard Scott, Greg Vines, Stacy Vines, Chris Vines and William "Tater" Morphew. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N.
