Marshall Cole

After living life to its fullest, Marshall Cole, 83, of Russellville, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, at his home. He was born October 19, 1930, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Marshall E. and Ruth F. Cole. In 1944, Marshall moved to Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1948. During the Korean War he served in the Army. He was an Eagle Scout and loved the outdoor sports including, golf, hunting, fishing, and had a love for camping with his family. Marshall's first job was delivering newspapers on his horse named Chief, in The Heights of Little Rock. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelors and a master degree of science in Geology. He served on the boards for Potts Inn and the Intermodal Transportation. He began his career with the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1958 and after 30 years with Union Pacific Railroad he retired as assistant district engineer. After Marshall retired he perfected the art of story telling for all to hear. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Carol Cole Smith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Cole, of Russellville; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Barclay Berdan, of Ft. Worth, Texas; Sara and Richard Daily, of Russellville; a sister, Betty Drake, of Little Rock; 4 grandchildren, David and Kristal Smith, of Russellville, Cathleen Berdan, of Austin, Texas; Laura and Daniel Brinker, of Conway, and Teddy Berdan, of Ft. Worth, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Aubree Smith, of Russellville; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gail Brooks, and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor's choice. Visitation will be immediately following the service at the funeral home.
