William Carroll Roberts

William Carroll Roberts, 70 of Cabot went to be with our Lord on Nov. 14, 2014. He was born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1943 to Glyn and Jean Roberts of Sheridan. Raised in Mabelvale, he married the love of his life Sheila Jean Hastings, his wife of 47 years. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his sister, Betty Welch, and niece, Deshea Lankford. He is survived by his wife, Shelia; son, Chris Roberts, and his wife, Michelle, of Cabot and their three children, Lauren, Lesley and Colton; Jason "Matt" Roberts and his wife, Tracy, of Cabot and Matt's son, Crew of Dallas, and Tracy's son, Eric Pique of Cabot; his sister, Greta Lankford and her husband Doug of Cabot and their son, Derrick. SMSGT Roberts served in the USAF for 23 years as an Air Traffic Controller. During his military career, he was recognized many times for his duty and service to his country as a top performing NCO. His service included a tour in Vietnam. SMSGT Roberts retired from the USAF in 1983 accepting a position with Cabot High School as the NCO for their JROTC program. SMSGT Roberts served in this role for over 10 years. During this time he mentored hundreds of JROTC students, many who credit their military career to him. He later took a position with the Air National Guard's Youth Challenge program at Camp Robinson where he worked with troubled youth for over 12 years. SMSGT Roberts' passion was always centered on mentoring young people, whether young Airmen, students or troubled teens. He was a deeply devoted Christian father and husband. He attended Cabot Southside Church of Christ. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends. His family is comforted knowing he is with our Lord in Heaven. One of his favorite verses is Numbers 6:24-26. "The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon you. And be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you. And give you peace." A time of visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, Nov. 17 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816.
