Calvin Allen Murphy

Calvin Allen Murphy, 83, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark. He was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Drew County to Charlie Allen and Alma Verline Smith Murphy. He received his education at Drew Central High School. Mr. Murphy served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked 18 years in construction and maintenance for the State of Arkansas, retiring in 1996. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Piney Woods Hunting Club, the VFW and a former member of the local Carpenter's Union. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Murphy, Malvin Murphy, Norman Douglas Murphy, Thomas Barton Murphy; sisters, Alma Murphy Slocum Enderby, Eunice Murphy Judkins and Clara Murphy Taylor Waller. Survivors include his wife, Margie Ann Hobson Murphy, who he married on Sept. 2, 1967, in Pine Bluff; a step son, Richard McLaughlin of Hot Springs; step daughters, Myra Hardy of Pine Bluff, Marcie Sites (David) of Stuttgart; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A visitation will be 5 to 6:30 p.m., Monday at Robinson's. Graveside services by Ralph Robinson & Son will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Union Ridge Cemetery near Monticello, with Reverend Charles Slocum officiating.
