Donald Dinning Pettigrew Sr.

Donald Dinning Pettigrew Sr. was born Oct. 26, 1931 in Brinkley, Ark. the youngest child of Dee William and Frankie Pettigrew. He died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at the Stuttgart Hospital. Don lived his entire life in Clarendon and was a graduate of Clarendon High School. He graduate from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a bachelor of science in agriculture and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. He was a lifelong supporter of the Arkansas Razorback football team. He served in the U. Sl. Army and during his active duty was stationed in Germany. On Dec. 15, 1957, he married Celeste Stagg of Brinkley. Don was an active member of the Clarendon United Methodist Church. He served on the Clarendon School Board for 25 years and also on the Soil Conservation Board. He served as a board of director for the Bank of Holly Grove and the Holly Grove Gin Co. Don was a farmer who loved the outdoors. He was actively involved in Pettigrew Farming partnership with his son, Donald, until a stroke deprived him of the job he loved so much. He enjoyed his favorite past time of hunting, but most of all he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers; D. W. Pettigrew Jr. and Edwin Pettigrew. He is survived by his wife, Celeste, and their three children, Donald (Barbara) Pettigrew Jr. of Clarendon, Nancy Moery of Carlisle and Amy (Richard) Harris of Stuttgart; seven grandchildren, Mallory (Mark) Hindsley, Tyler Pettigrew, Robert Moery, Mary Catherine Moery, Caroline Moery, Hunter Harris and Grace Harris and one great-grandson, Hudson Hindsley. He is survived by one sister, Frances Fitzgerald and sisters-in-law, Helene and Jackie Pettigrew. The family will gather at Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home-Clarendon, Monday evening, from 6 until 8 o'clock to visit with friends. Funeral services will be 11 o'clock, Tuesday at Clarendon Methodist Church, with burial following at Shady Grove Cemetery.
