Mr. Sidney M. Kennedy, 84, of Wynne, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in Memphis, Tennessee. Sidney was born in Hunter, Arkansas, on January 30, 1930 to Samuel Elliott Kennedy and Grace Steed Kennedy Combe. He was a retired school administrator, first working for Moro School District and was the youngest Superintendent. He then worked for McCrory, Tuckerman, Goznell, Palestine, Cross County, Grubbs and Armorel School Districts. During the Carter administration, Mr. Kennedy was asked to be the head of the Education Department of the United States. Mr. Kennedy served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wynne and a 32nd Degree Mason. Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Elliott Kennedy and Grace Steed Combe; brothers, Sam E. Kennedy, Jr; Clyde G. Kennedy; Norman E. Kennedy and sister, Lyda Bess Pierce. He is survived by his wife, Minola C. Kennedy of Wynne; sons, Craig Kennedy of Cherry Valley; Eric Kennedy of Colt; Ben B. Nguyen of Fort Washakie, Wyo.; Bernard Chen of Springfield, Va.; daughters, Marla K. Newman of Fredericksburg, Va.; and Brigitte B. Bartels of Jonesboro; sister, Anne Young of North Little Rock; and 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with services following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hunter, Arkansas.
