Richard Earl Harrington

Richard Earl Harrington, 74, of Austin, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014. He is survived by his daughter Cindy Sims (Ronnie Guyot) of Ward; his son Dennis Harrington of Austin; three grandchildren who were very near and dear to him: Whitney Sims, Zach Harrington and Jacob Harrington; two brothers, Jimmy Harrington (Linda) of Arkadelphia, Johnny Harrington (Dottie) of Louisiana; three sisters, Sherrell Senn (John) of West Virginia, Wilma Harris (Royce) of Florida and Linda Spradlin of Arkadelphia; and a very close friend and neighbor, Arthur Pearson. Preceding him in death were his parents, John Richard and Dicie Mae Harrington; one brother, Dr. Jack Harrington; and three sisters, Margie Johnson, Helen Adcock and Mary Harris. Richard had recently been attending Destiny Cowboy Church and looked forward to Sunday morning worship and Thursday night Bible study and fellowship. He enjoyed very much getting there early so he could see and visit with everyone before hearing God's word being taught. Richard was a veteran of the Army, a retiree from Olin Chemical Corporation and the V.A. Hospital. Having lived in Lonoke County for the last 40+ years, he was known and trusted by many people around the state in the horse business, not only as a trustworthy source to buy a horse or mule but as a horse shoer, too. He loved to shoe, buy, sell or trade to make a spending dollar or just to have the experience for a story to tell. "Pa" and Whitney loved a good Friday night horse sale at Beebe Livestock Auction where he worked faithfully for many years helping sell tack, horses, mules and pigs. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Smith – Westbrook Funeral Home. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at Smith – Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith – Westbrook Funeral Home. www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
