Mike Allen

Mr. Mike Allen departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 4. He was born April 6, 1948, at Newport the son of D.T. and Frances Allen. Mike was President and co-owner of D.T. Allen and Company for over 40 years. He began working with his father and later was privileged to work with his sons. Mike was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newport. He was a member of the Newport High School Class of 1966. He excelled in football, basketball, baseball, track, and golf. As a teammate, Mike was a favorite. Following high school, Mike attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he continued to excel athletically as a member of the Arkansas Razorback Track team. Mike was a member of the SAE Fraternity and graduated with a degree in business. Mike was a championship golfer, winning numerous tournaments at the Newport Country Club. As most exceptional athletes, Mike made every sport look easy and he was his own most fierce competitor. Mike Allen's athletic accomplishments will long be remembered. But, he will be best remembered for his kind, humble, and generous spirit. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Allen; two sons, Michael Wayne Allen Jr and wife, Julie, and John Dewitt Allen and wife, Sally, all of Newport; and one daughter Sara C. Bryant and husband, Daniel, of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Meagan, John, Clay, George, Harry, and Timothy. Friends may visit at the First Baptist Church Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, from 1 p.m. Services will follow beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. A. Timothy Hight officiating.
