MELVA DEAN WAGNON, 90, of Maumelle, passed away April 8, 2015. She was born in Marion, La. to W. L. and Jessie Edwards Cates and was a member of the Maumelle Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Cortez G. Wagnon; children: Sherry Vandeventer (Charles) of Spokane, Wash., Gary Wagnon (Nancy) of Tucson, Ariz., Randall Wagnon of Houston, Texas, Tammy Childress (Bryon) of Maumelle, and Chris Gonzales (Daniel) of Arlington, Texas; brother, Bonnie Ray Cates (Edna) and sister-in-law (and best friend), Helen Thompson (Everett), both of El Dorado; and grandchildren, Kevin Vandeventer and Jeff Vandeventer, both of Spokane; Christopher Wagnon and Allen Wagnon, both of Tucson; Randall Wagnon of Dallas, Texas; Meredith Wagnon of Arlington; Lauren (Kring) of Tucson; Kelsey Hatcher, Larkin Hatcher, Haley Hatcher and Lynley Childress, all of Maumelle; as well as six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Elton Cates and Odie Cates. Melva performed many jobs over the years, but her greatest role was that of mother and grandmother. "Grammy's" greatest joy in life came from creating adventures, making costumes, cookies, and life-long memories for her grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the wonderful team from Gentiva Hospice and her loving nurses and caregivers at the Lakes of Maumelle. Services will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).
