Charles "Chuck" Guy Baxter, age 61, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born November 28, 1953 in Takoma Park, Maryland, the son of David and Katherine Masters Baxter. He was preceded in death by his parents. Chuck graduated from Siloam Springs High School in 197l and went on to attend the University of Arkansas, graduating with a BSE in Elementary Education in May 1977. While studying elementary education he met his soulmate Marianne Gibson Baxter. They were married on the winter solstice in 1978 and they both went on to serve several years teaching for the Fayetteville Public School District. After teaching in the classroom for 18 years, he completed his Master's degree in Educational Technology. For the next 15 years he was able to integrate his knowledge and appreciation for technology with his understanding of student learning as an Instructional Technology Coordinator. He retired in 2012 after 33 years of working for the public schools. Chuck loved nature and belonged to several environmental organizations. He strived to help make the world a safer and more peaceful place. He looked at life with an artistic and creative mind and anyone around him benefited from his quirky sense of humor. Chuck saw the beauty in the ordinary things around him. He had an eclectic taste and appreciation for music and a passion for creating music as well. He was a generous and accepting person who was filled with love for his family, friends, music, and animals. Throughout Chuck's decade long battle with cancer, Marianne tenderly and patiently cared for him, providing a selfless example of love and devotion. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation for the Washington Regional Hospice nurses and staff for their excellent care and endless compassion throughout his last weeks. He is survived by his wife, Marianne Baxter of Fayetteville; two daughters, Deidre Leonard and her husband Jon of Fayetteville and Marinda Baxter of Boulder, Colorado; a brother, David Baxter and his wife Concha of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Karen Baxter-Rhoades and her husband James "Dusty" of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dr. Linda Baxter and her husband Bill Richardson of Carrollton, Georgia; three grandchildren, Jack, Katie and Charlotte; seven nephews; his best friend, fellow musician, and camping companion, Kim Shivers; and his loving and loyal dog, Cash. Cremation arrangements are by Moore's Chapel. There will be a visitation 2–4 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Moore's Chapel. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at a later date.
