Mr. Lynn Thomas Stewart of Tupelo, Arkansas, formerly of Conway, departed this life on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the age of 78. He was born September 24, 1936, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. Lynn attended 1st thru 11th grades at Cotton Plant. He was recruited by Searcy High School his Senior year to play football, basketball, baseball, and run track. Lynn was a star athlete, holding the Arkansas State High Jump record for over 50 years. He was a 1954 graduate of Searcy High School. Following graduation, Lynn attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway where he graduated in 1958, with a Bachelors degree in Education. He taught and coached at Searcy High School for 4 years. As well as being a stellar athlete, Lynn was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting duck, quail, and pheasant. He also enjoyed playing golf. Lynn began working in the petroleum industry in 1962 and continued to work in this industry for the remainder of his life. Over the last 3 years, he served as President of Greenway Oil and Gas. Throughout his working years, Lynn met many people, and developed long lasting friendships dating back to the 1960's. He was a Christian. Lynn was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Cotton Plant. During his adult life, he worshiped at the First Presbyterian Churches in Wynne and Conway and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Newport. Mr. Lynn Thomas Stewart will always be remembered as a true Southern gentleman. He was kind and gracious in spirit, a good man, who treated all people the same. Lynn will be sorely missed by many, but none more than his wife, children, and grandchildren who were his priority. He was their greatest fan. Lynn was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Joan (Satterfield) Stewart and his parents, Ella Mae (Ramer) Collard and Sonny Collard. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Mary K. (Carrothers) Hardin-Stewart of the home; one son, Marshall Stewart and wife, Chris, of Wynne; one daughter, Jan Clark of Conway; grandchildren, Stewart Clark of Little Rock, Morgan Clark of Conway, Maddison Stewart, Carson Stewart, and Roy Like, all of Wynne; step-grandchildren, Hannah Hardin Simpson and husband, Andy, of Tupelo, Joseph Jack Hardin and wife, Jordan, of Tupelo, Matthew M. Hardin and wife, Sarah, of Diaz, and William Coy Hardin of Diaz; their mother, Susan Shelton Morrison and husband, Randy, of Diaz; one step-son, Millard Hardin and wife, Christy, of Tupelo. Also surviving are two step-great grandchildren, Lana Simpson and Noah Jack Hardin; and a lifetime of friends. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Cotton Plant Cemetery with Rev. William Christopher Cooper of the First United Methodist Church in Little Rock officiating. Honorary pallbearers are James Billings, Bob Howard, Bern Pruitt, Robert Bassham, Rick Sweeney, and Stan Ferguson.
