Claudie Bowden, 82, of Russellville, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, SC. The daughter of James and Rachel Rena Thompson Johnson, she was born October 18, 1932 in Ada, Okla. Claudie owned West Main Shopping Center and owned and operated a daycare facility where she cared for, loved and influenced many children. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Russellville and Midway Baptist Church of Goose Creek, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Marshall Bowden; her parents; daughter, Vickie Bowden; five brothers, Van, Woodrow, Ray, Nathan, Raman Johnson; four sisters, Bea Riley, Lillie Kunert, Ruby Riley, Mary Woods; granddaughter, Megan Oswalt; grandson, Wes Oswalt; and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Bruce. Left to cherish Claudie's memory is her daughter, Virginia Gail Oswalt of Goose Creek, S.C.; honorary daughter, Dawn Whiting; four grandchildren, Felecia Turnbow (Jeff) of Conway, Ginger Jacob (Philip) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Brandy Bruce (Matt) of Landson, S.C., Wil Oswalt of Goose Creek, S.C.; 10 great-grandchildren, Noelle Jacob, Justin Bruce, Altan Turnbow, Hunter Jacob, Ryan Jacob, Toria Turnbow, Gracie Bruce, Tabatha Bruce, Ava Turnbow, Weston Oswalt; and sister, Edith Betterncourt (Tony) of Morgan Hill, Calif. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Humphrey Chapel. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, Ark. by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday, at the funeral home.
