Emmett P. Pate

Emmett P. Pate 88, of Camden, Ark. succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease Saturday, April 25, 2015. The son of Florence Evans and Chester Pate was born in Sarasota, Fla. The family moved to South Arkansas and settled in Dallas County near Sparkman where Emmett and his sister Thelma attended school. One of his classmates was Callie Jeffers, whom he married in 1944, beginning a marriage that lasted 71 years until his death. He had a career at International Paper Company for 39 years. Emmett is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Thelma and husband, Louis Butler, sisters-in-law, Sue White and Lena Riggs. He is survived by his wife, Callie Jeffers Pate; sisters-in-law, Fann Woodward of Little Rock, Ark.; Minnie Ward; Bernice Forcht; brother, Jimmy Jeffers and wife, Josselyn of Camden, Ark.; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the Army and was a member of American Legions, VFW, Masonic Lodge, Believers Church where he was Loyal and Supportive. Emmett enjoyed wood working, bird hunting, fishing and RV camping. One of his specialties was creating table top railroad systems which were works of art. Emmett was talented in many areas, always meticulous in his work. Funeral service will be held at Proctor Funeral Home 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 with visitation from 1-2 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery near Sparkman, Ark. with Reverend Brian Bohrer officiating the services. Memorials may be made to Ouachita County Medical Center Hospice, or a charity of choice.
