Dolly C Murphy

Dolly C. Murphy, 97 of Benton, Arkansas succumbed to a lengthy illness on August 3, 2015. Mrs. Murphy was born Dolly Grounds Culpepper to Vernon Hise Cullpepper and Mattie Ardis Culpepper on July 22, 1918 in Bossier Parish, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Martha Cornelia Culpepper, her husband, Walter Edward Murphy, Sr. and husband, 1st M.Sgt. James Kenneth Cox, USAF Retired. Dolly grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1935 and Dodd College in 1938. She was retired from the business office of Highland Hospital in Shreveport. After retirement, she was active in the Highland Hospital Auxiliary. After the death of her husband, Walter Murphy, she moved to Benton, Arkansas. Dolly loved volunteering her time and became active in the Saline Memorial Auxillary, NARFE and CJOHN after moving to Arkansas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton. Dolly is survived by her daughter, Carrie Cox Dawson and husband, Larry of Bauxite, granddaughter, Mary Michelle Daly-Smith and husband, Dan of Alexander, grandson, Michael Patrick Daly of Benton, great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Smith and Emma Carrie Smith of Alexander. A celebration of Dolly's life will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, Louisiana. Visitation will be Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line guest book at www.ashbyfuneralhome.com.
