Waymon L. Sorey, 83, of Pine Bluff, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 3, 2015, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mr. Sorey was born August 11, 1931, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, a son of the late Dillard Burk and Maggie Ethel Snow Sorey. He was reared and received his education in Little Rock, where he graduated from Little Rock Tech High School in 1951. He served in the United States National Guard. He married Helen Ann Kampbell on August 2, 1951 in Little Rock. They moved to Washingston in 1952, where he began a long career in the paper-making industry starting with Weyerhauser. They returned in 1957 to Pine Bluff, where he joined Dierks Paper Company and retired after 44 years of service as an Assistant Superintendent. He was known by all of his friends and co-workers as "Zorro". He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He used to enjoy getting up early to be on the lake and teaching his daughter how to fish. He enjoyed many hours of watching his grandsons Gerry and Matt play sports. One of his favorite pass times was going to his friend Jackie Rauls home in the Herbine Community, where he and Jackie would catch fish in Jackie's pond and then all the guys would eat the fish and play pitch with his friends, Jackie, Clinton Rauls, Havis Hyatt, Harry Taylor, George Richardson, George Ashcraft, Carey Taylor, and Wayne Richardson. He was a 32nd Degree mason of the Iron Springs Masonic Lodge #342 in Little Rock. He was also a member of the Shrine Nomad Patrol, where he enjoyed riding motorcycles in parades with his son and son-in-law. Mr. Sorey is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Sorey of Pine Bluff; son, Robert (Susan) Sorey of Pine Bluff; daughter, Donna (Donnie) Carnahan of White Hall; four grandsons, Gerry (Juanita) Sorey, Matt (Ashley) Sorey, Daniel (Sarah) Carnahan and Aaron Carnahan; He also leaves to cherish six great-grandchildren, Blake Sorey, Jackson Sorey, Colton Sorey, Lucas Carnahan, Owen Carnahan and his pride and joy Alice Carnahan, his only great-granddaughter; a brother, Coy Sorey of Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bertha Biggs and Itha Dixon, and three brothers, Winfred, D. B. and Clyde Sorey. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 6, 2015, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at White Hall First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 6, 2015, 10 a.m., at White Hall First Baptist Church with Reverends Paul Williams and Jim Monroe officiating.
