Noel Nokomis McGuire, age 83, of the East End Community, passed away August 9, 2015, surrounded by family at his bedside at home. He was born January 1, 1932, in Lamar Arkansas, to Elmer and Stella McGuire. He fought a good fight after being disabled by a stroke eleven years ago, and died after a relatively short battle with cancer. Noel was valedictorian of his high school class, and received a Bachelor's degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA), A Master's degree from the University of Arkansas, and did post graduate studies at the University Extension Center in Little Rock. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served on the U.S.S. Saipan. His early career was in retail management in several southern states. He also traveled three states as wholesale representative for Western Auto. Upon return to Arkansas in 1964, he was employed by Little Rock School District as D.E. Coordinator. He was also coordinator of the pilot project of "DEEP" – Developmental Economic Education Program. He retired from the district as Vocational Supervisor. Noel was a 50-year member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and attended the Owen Curry Men's Bible Class. He was past president of the Little Rock Civitan Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Detective Noel Don McGuire; a sister-in-law, Mildred McGuire; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Stewart. He is survived by Kay, his wife of sixty years and his best friend since their meeting on his nineteenth birthday. He is also survived by a brother, Bob McGuire, as well as three nephews and their families as follows: Jim (Becky), Bob (Belynda), Mike, Jamey (Heather), Clint (Amanda), Megan (Kyle), Matthew (Sasha), Ashlee, Chase (Brandi), Michael, Bree, Blake, Easton, Lathen, Lucy, Allie, Zoey, Kayden, Elizabell, Kree, Lana and Riley. Also, survived by a sister-in-law, Marcella Stewart; by three god-children and their families: Chad (Krystal), Trey (Tabitha), Kelsie, Kayleah, Brooke, and Adisyn; by 18 first cousins,; by his F.O.P. family, and many friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas (501-224-8300), with graveside service with military honors at 11 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2015 at West Mt. Zion Cemetery near Hartman, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be former and current members of the Little Rock Police Department. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Anderw United Methodist Church, 4600 Baseline Rd., Little Rock, Ark. 72209.
