On August 8, 2015, SARAH DAVENPORT, "Miss Honey", surrounded by members of her immediate family, peacefully transitioned from her earthly temple to be with the Lord. She was born August 21,1914, in the Douglas community near Grady, Ark., the second of five children born to Johnny Johnson and Mary Bailey Johnson. Reared and educated in Lincoln County, Sarah married Charley Davenport on December 24,1941, eventually moving to Swan Lake, Ark. and later to Altheimer, Ark. in Jefferson County. There, she joined the Eudora Baptist Church serving faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Grover Shaw. Widowed at the age of 56 following the death of her husband in 1970, she eventually relocated to Little Rock where she united with First Baptist Church Highland Park, serving with dedication until her health began to fail. Sarah retired from Arkansas Children's Hospital after 21 years of meritorious service in Environmental Services. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Corinne, Johnny, Jr., Thelmon, and Robirda ; as well as her first husband, Freddie Shavers and four (4) children: Leroy Shavers, Liza Page, Norva Jean and Christopher Davenport. She is survived by her children, Edna Shavers of Tulsa, Ok.a; Dorothy Phillips, Herman Davenport (Bobette), Gloria Davenport, Earl Davenport( Carmella) and Calvin Davenport, Little Rock, Ark.; Christine Austin, Pine Bluff, Ark.; Marie Phillips (Charles), Aurora, Illinois; and Charletta Gibby, Conyers, Ga.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 from 6-7 p.m. at Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester, Little Rock, Ark. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2501 S. Main Street, Little Rock, Ark., Rev. C. Dennis Edward, I, pastor; Rev. W.W. Walker Jr., officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, 2801 Asher Avenue, Little Rock.
