Mrs. Mildred Louise Jarvis Minor of Newport departed this life Wednesday, August 19, 2015, in Little Rock at the age of 80. She was born October 19, 1934, in Newport the daughter of Eugene Jarvis and Golda Christina (Parsley) Jarvis. Mildred grew up in Newport and was a 1952 graduate of Newport High School. Following high school she attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Marketing in 1956. Mildred was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and remained active as an alumnus of the Chi Omega sisterhood throughout her life. On July 7, 1957, Mildred married her high school sweetheart, John Minor. Together they shared 58 years of life with family at the center. Mildred was room mother for all four of her children and actively supported all of their scholastic and athletic activities from their grade school years throughout their college years. The same loving support she gave to her children she also passed on to her eight grandchildren. Mildred and John travelled countless miles to be present for awards, activities, and sporting events for both their children and grandchildren. As a young woman, Mildred lived in Dallas where she worked for a short time in retail and occasionally as a substitute teacher. Following her marriage, she became a homemaker and in the mid 1980's began working side by side with her husband, John, as a real estate broker for John Minor Realty in Newport. Mildred was a member of the Newport Newcomers Club and several Bridge Clubs. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed being a member of the Jackson County Library Book Club. Mildred was an active and devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women. Mildred will forever be remembered for her kind, gracious, and genuine spirit. She truly was as beautiful inside as she was out. Mildred was loving and loyal. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Mildred was a true lady. She will be missed by many but, none more than those who lovingly called her "Mama Mil". She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Jarvis. She is survived by her husband, John Minor, Sr.; her children Lynne Minor Hare and husband, Marvin, John Minor, Jr. and wife, Deborah, Susan Minor and Martha Minor; eight grandchildren, Anna Minor, John Minor III, David Minor, Greg Smith, Jr., Lance Connor, Kathryn Connor, Thomas Vaughan, and Emily Vaughan. Also surviving is her sister, Dorothy Moseley and husband, Ray; two nephews, Clay Minor and Alcorn Minor, III; one niece Leigh Minor Schlegel. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 23, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Larry Burton officiating. A reception in celebration of Mildred's life will follow in the Parish House. Private family interment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Arkansas Children's Hospital, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
