Charlotte Yocum Felt

Charlotte Yocum Felt, 97, a longtime resident of New Orleans, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at St James Place in Baton Rouge. Charlotte was born on July 23, 1918 in El Dorado, Arkansas, to the late Henry Scott Yocum and Annie Mae Goodwin Yocum. She grew up in El Dorado, and graduated with a degree in music from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas in 1939, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. After marrying the late Arthur "Buddy" F. Felt of New Orleans in 1941, they resided on Bellaire Drive in New Orleans where she raised her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who enjoyed her family, playing her piano, and contributing her time and energy to many political issues and causes throughout her life. She was a past president of the women's auxiliary of the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, and for over fifty years was a faithful and ardent member of, and held many leadership positions in, the local and state Daughters of the American Revolution Society. She will be remembered for her many cogent and pithy letters to the editor that appeared in local and state newspapers in Louisiana and Arkansas. She was active at Munholland Methodist Church in Metairie, La. until her move to Baton Rouge. She is survived by her loving children, daughter: Melinda F. Gray of Baton Rouge; son, Capt. Robert Y. Felt and wife Laura of Hendersonville, N.C.; granddaughter Ashley L. Gray of Baton Rouge; granddaughter Elizabeth F. Haviland and husband John and great-grandchildren Henry and Eleanor of Charlotte, N.C.; grandson, Edward G. Gray and wife Pamela and great-grandchildren, Lucy, Will, and Sally of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter, Emily O. Felt and husband Greg Corrin and great-grandchildren, Hana and Louisa of Charlotte, N.C.; nephew, Richard S. Shallcross and wife Pat, niece, Paula S. Cox and nephew, William P. Shallcross and wife Sheila, all of Arlington, Texas; niece, Pamela S. Harper and husband Gene of Granbury, Texas; and nephew Henry S. Yocum III and wife Paula of Eldorado, Ark. Her daughter, Rebecca Goodwin Felt passed away in 2004. The family would like to thank the staff at St. James Place, Hospice of Baton Rouge, especially Suzie Boudinet, Synergy, and the team of Home Instead caregivers, especially Frances Mitchell, Latasha Dennis, and Samantha Davis. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, La. and the visitation will begin at 12 noon until service time. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
