Martha Ann Overstreet Johnson, 74, of El Dorado died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. Born Sept. 28, 1940 in Union County, Ark., she was the daughter of Rufus C. and Norah Elaine Jackson Overstreet. Martha graduated El Dorado High School, then worked to put herself through college, graduating from Southern State University in Magnolia, Ark. in 1970 with a bachelor's in business administration. She worked for the Coffee Cup, where she met her husband of 53 years, Gordon Rex, her Deedo, as she affectionately called him, and also Chelsey Pruet Drilling Company while attending college. She began work at Great Lakes Chemical the year following her graduation from college, as an administrative assistant to VP of Manufacturing then later was promoted to production coordinator, where she was breaking barriers as the first woman in the plant. She retired in 2004 after 32 years of service. Martha was a very smart and articulate woman who had many special gifts. She could type more than 100 wpm on a manual typewriter, was a very gifted pianist who never had the benefit of a lesson and loved kitty cats. She and Gordon vacationed and explored a lot of the United States by vehicle, as she was terrified to fly. She was a sweet and generous soul that was admired and respected by many. She will be missed by those who had the blessing to know her. Preceding her in death are her parents; sister, Lucy Stookey and nephew, Robert Keith Stookey. Survivors include her husband, Gordon R. Johnson of El Dorado; niece, Sonya S. Stookey of El Dorado; great-niece, Rhiannon Massery and her husband, Kevin and their children, Kiahlee, Isabella, Kaleb and Kade Massery all of Greenbrier, Ark. and brother-in-law, Buddy Johnson and his wife, Wanda of Texas. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015 at Young's. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at Burns Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors, with John Fields officiating.
