Jerry Bland

Senior Chief (US Navy retired) Jerry W. Bland, 68, of Cabot, Ark. passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 after a long, hard battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran with 23 years of Naval service. During that time he earned both his Submarine Warfare Specialist and Aviation Warfare Specialist certifications, and he became a Russian linguist who taught intermediate Russian to other servicemen. Following his Naval career, Jerry spent 18 years working at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He was an avid Razorback fan who enjoyed working on computers, playing cards, and helping other people. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Dixie and James William Bland, brothers Martin and Charles, sister Charlene, and son-in-law Daniel Cunningham. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Doris Bland of Cabot, sons Jeff and Debbie Bland of Cabot, Waylon and Mandie Bland of Choctaw, Okla., Wesley and Amanda Bland of North Little Rock, daughter, Wendy Cunningham of Cabot; brothers Joe Bland of Pine Bluff, Billy Bland of Little Rock, Bobby Bland of Sheridan, and sisters Mary Theos of Kansas, and Carolyn Mears of Sheridan. He is also survived by nine grandchildren. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, (501) 843-5816.
