James Orlando Lide

James Orlando Lide of Arkadelphia, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in Arkadelphia. He was born September 16, 1919 in Camden, Arkansas to the late John M. and Lillian Rumph Lide. Jim was a graduate of Camden High School and the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas. In World War II, he served three years and eight months in the U.S. Army including two years with ground forces in China. He attained the rank of Technical Sgt. and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. In 1954, he married Norma Jean Langley of Arkadelphia. They lived in Crossett where he worked for the Crossett Company, later Georgia-Pacific until his retirement in 1982. In 1986, they retired to Arkadelphia. Jim was a member of Arkadelphia First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He served as secretary-treasurer of the state chapter of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, organ recitals and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Lide on August 21, 2010; one sister, Martha Frazer; two brothers, Hugh and Jack Lide. Survivors are two nephews, William Glenn "Lance" Lide of Little Rock, John Marion Frazer of Concord, California; a brother-in-law, David Lee Langley of Mt. Ida, Arkansas and one cousin, Mable Harris Webb of Little Rock. A private graveside service was held at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia by Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.
