Jane Elizabeth Jones Sentell

Dr. Jane Elizabeth Jones Sentell, formerly of Montgomery, Alabama, and the widow of James Oscar (J.O.) Sentell, died February 20, 2015, in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 101. Dr. Sentell was born on October 18, 1913, in Choctaw County, Alabama, to the Reverend and Mrs. Thomas Glenn Jones. Her father was a Methodist minister, so the family moved many times during her growing-up years. She was a classroom teacher in Montgomery, Alabama for many years. During this time she went back to school and received her Master's degree. She taught first grade, third grade, and sixth grade. She then earned her Ph.D. and became a college professor. She was recognized for her work in the humanities, social studies, music, and Latin American history. Services for Dr. Sentell will be held at the Luverne United Methodist Church in Luverne, Alabama. Arrangements are being handled by Turners Funeral Home in Luverne. A memorial service will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas, at a later date. Survivors are Dr. Sentell's three children: daughter, Jane Preiss (George) of Little Rock, Arkansas; son, James Sentell of Opelika, Alabama; and son, Edgar Sentell (Barbara) of Madison, Mississippi. She has eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Luverne United Methodist Church, P.O.
