Hazel, lovingly called "Mama Hay", "Hazy", "Hazel B." or "Aunt Hay" by young and old, was a pillar of the community of England. She was a loving nurturing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Some folks referred to her as "The Queen of England". Southern Hospitality, Grace and Charm were just a few words to describe her. Hazel wore many hats in her day: Member of the Eastern Star, Member of PTA for the England Elementary and High schools, as long as her children were in school. She held various offices in GFWC (England Cosmopolitan Club). She was the owner of Lion Oil for many years. The First Baptist Church of England was an important part of her life. She was a longtime member of the Woman's Missionary Society, Superintendent of the Primary Sunday School Dept, for many years and leader in organizing Vacation Bible School and Girls Auxiliary. She was involved in all church activities while able. It was important to Hazel to nurture children by teaching them right from wrong and love and forgiveness of fellow man and help lead them to salvation. Today, a couple of the buzz words are "Act of Kindness" and "Pay It Forward",. Hazel practiced those all her life. It came naturally to her. She preformed many charitable and philanthropic acts, quietly. It was just her way. She enjoyed entertaining. The best times were when friends and family gathered inside her home. For 40 plus years, she hosted a Friday afternoon coffee for her "girlfriends" and everyone had a fabulous time telling stories and jokes. As time passed the weekly event became known as the "Tea Party" and the guest, "Tea Party Girls"". How 'bout this: New Years Eve Celebration for her "galpals" at age 92. Hazy along with her daughter, Ginger, hosted 18 ladies that year....9 p.m. to midnight...most stayed until 2 am...of course no one needed a designated driver for any reason except age. She devoted her life to family, God, community and friends. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of England with visitation at 10 a.m. before the service. Interment will be in Mulberry Cemetery in Adams Family Masoleum. Wilson Robison Funeral Home of England will be in charge of the service.
