Wallace Lyndel Beard, age 89, of Arkadelphia, passed from this life on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at his home. He was born February 23, 1925 in Gurdon, the son of the late Josh and Hettie Scoggins Beard. Wallace was a Christian, a retired farmer and member of Curtis Baptist Church. He was a United States Veteran of World War II. Wallace worked as a mechanic at Hollywood Vasarette and Levi Straus in Arkadelphia He was most happy when working outside with his cows and helping his neighbors. Wallace was preceded in death by his first wife of over 50 years, Glendean Marks Beard, and one sister Juanita Barr. Survivors are his wife, Joan Herron Beard of the home, three sons, Guen (Vicky) Beard of Alexander, Lennie (Bonnie) Beard of Arkadelphia and Mark (Toni) Beard of Arkadelphia, one sister, Viola Harper of Garland, TX, five grandchildren, Tonya Cox, Shannon, Lyndell, Brandon and Draper Beard, and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Welch Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Runyan and Pastor Rick Hyde officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Special thanks to Sharon Collins, John and Lou Roland Jennifer Williams and Arkansas Hospice for their loving care and support. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church at Curtis.
