Frank Barnes Hampton

Frank Barnes Hampton, a lifelong resident of Arkansas County, died Sunday, January 11, 2015. He was born March 9, 1922 to Horace E. and Mildred Barnes Hampton in Hagler, Arkansas. Following high school in DeWitt and college work at Arkansas State University and George Washington University in Washington, DC, Barnes joined the Army in 1942 and served in Europe in World War II during five major battles for which he was recognized with the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and a Purple Heart. Hampton served as a pharmacist at Hampton Drug Company in DeWitt joining his father in the store following graduation in 1948 from the University of South Carolina Pharmacy School. Hampton had met and married Mary Ruby Dallas in Columbia, South Carolina while stationed there at the end of World War II; following graduation they moved to DeWitt to spend their life together for 56 years. Barnes led his family in serving First United Methodist Church in DeWitt giving of his time at the local, district and conference levels. He was known to say the roles he loved most within the church were as an elementary school Sunday school teacher, a choir member and in his latter years as the Sunday morning greeter at the church entrance. Survivors are his brother, Dale (Pat) Hampton of Reno, Nevada; the Hampton daughters, Carol Rasco of Alexandria, Virginia, Martha Carle of Little Rock and Becki Cullipher (Jimmy) of Stuttgart; grandchildren, Hamp Rasco, Mary-Margaret Marks (Matthew), Becca Austin (Tara) and Drew Carle all of Little Rock; Carrie Simpson (Brian) of Stuttgart; and Casey Cullipher (Michal) of Cabot. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at DeWitt First United Methodist Church, 608 South Grandview Drive on Wednesday, January 14 at 1 p.m. In lieu of floral tributes, the family has asked that memorials be made to DeWitt First United Methodist Church, 608 South Grandview Drive, DeWitt, Ark. 72042 or Easter Seals Arkansas, 3920 Woodland Heights Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72212.
