Robert Dale Williams

LTC (Ret) Robert Dale Williams of Sherwood, Ark., passed from this life January 10, 2015 at the age of 80. He was born in Cyril, Okla., to R.B. and Brownie Mae (Thompson) Williams. He is survived by wife, Mary Kathleen (Rackley) Williams, and children, Robert David (Michele) Williams and Sherri Lynn (Donald) Hullett and grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel, and Nathan. He is preceded in death by parents and brother Don Ray Williams. Bob was a member of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ. Bob served his country over 54 years in an enlisted, officer and civilian capacity. He enlisted into the Active U.S. Army on 28 January 1954 and served on an "Atomic Annie" cannon crew with 7th Corps. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central State College in 1960. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, in 1962 in the US Army Reserve. He served as a Public Affairs Officer for the 101st Airborne in Vietnam as a Captain from November 1967 to December 1968 and served in various reserve assignments reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve. Bob served as a civilian Public Affairs Specialist with the 122d Army Reserve, 90th Regional Support and 90th Regional Readiness Commands from 1973 until his retirement from civil service in 2007. Bob was a knowledgeable advisor to his superiors, peers and subordinates; a coach, mentor, and dedicated friend and, above all, a very good family man. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 15 at Arkansas Funeral Care. Funeral services will be 9am, Friday at the funeral home.
