JAMES ELMER WATERS passed away at the age of 96 on Jan. 24, 2015. He was born on July 18, 1918 to David Edgar and Evie Dolan Waters in Perryville. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Kenneth Waters; sisters, Melda Murphy Magee and Margarete Irby and step-mother, Floy Waters. Mr. Waters is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jearlene Murphy Waters; two sons, James David (Renay) Waters of Jacksonville and John Douglas (Janet) Waters of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Tara Waters (Tom) Newkirk of Jacksonville, Jake (Amy) Waters of Ward, Joshua Daniel Waters of Fayetteville, Jana Waters (Tyler) Hoffpauir of New Orleans, La., Jodi Denise Waters of Jonesboro and Tommy and Elizabeth Beason of Jacksonville, great-grandchildren, Braydon, Logan and Dawson Waters of Ward and Allison Newkirk of Jacksonville; sister-in-law, Claudine Waters of Little Rock; brother, Delfred (Martha) Waters of Harrison; sisters, Janice (Bob) Turney of Lakeview, Wash., Pat (Ed) Reid of Edgemont and many nieces, nephews and family friends. Mr. Waters was a member of Second Baptist Church of Jacksonville and was ordained as a deacon in 1952. He was an Army veteran, honorably discharged at the conclusion of World War II from Company D 5th Medical Battalion. He attended junior college in Little Rock, now UALR and retired from Sears in 1983 after working as a salesman for 32 years at the 7th and Main, University and McCain Mall locations. In lieu of flowers, please give to the ministries of your choosing: 2nd Baptist Church (Missions Fund), East Main Baptist Church (General Fund), Green Grove Cemetery Fund or Nettleton Baptist Church (Building Fund). Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at Second Baptist Church. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Green Grove Cemetery in Strong.
