Lola E Broadbent

Lola Evalyn Hieronymus Broadbent, was born to Ella and Bert Hieronymus in Higgins, Texas on March 21, 1917 and passed away at the Ozark Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, Arkansas on Monday, January 26, 2015. In 1935 she moved to the Tahlequah, Oklahoma area, where she finished high school and then attended Northeastern State University and Oklahoma A&M College. Lola met Elmer Broadbent while in college and they were married just prior to his entering the service in 1942. One son was born to this union. Lola and Elmer lived where he was an engineer for oil refineries in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kuwait and Aruba. The last of these was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana . They restored several antebellum homes in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Lola also sold real estate and was an accomplished artist. In 1988 Lola and Elmer moved to Cleburne County, Arkansas. They first lived in Fairfield Bay and later bought a farm in Greers Ferry. Lola as well as her husband Elmer was a Master Gardener and took great joy in helping to build the new Cleburne County Fair Grounds. They purchased the Red Bird Inn in 2001 where she and Elmer actively ran the business until passing it on to their son Ray. Lola was preceded in death by her father, Bert Hieronymus in 1948, her mother, Ella Hieronymus in 1952, her husband ,Elmer Broadbent in 2006 and her son, Ray Broadbent in 2013. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dardee Hartman Broadbent, her nieces, nephews other relatives and her many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 in the Olmstead Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Leedey Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Greers Ferry Ambulance Service. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home. www.olmstead.cc.
