Emily Ruth Jones Gaddy

EMILY RUTH JONES GADDY, 89, of Sherwood, died peacefully in her sleep after a long and courageous battle with COPD, Thursday, July 2, 2015. She was born in Thornton, Ark. to James Joseph (Joe) and Allie Velma Jones on Oct. 8, 1925 and was a graduate of Thornton High School in Calhoun County before attending college at the University of Houston. She was a life long member of Providence Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Thornton. Emily was known for her resourcefulness; her love of baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals; and her fondness for NASCAR. Emily is survived by her daughter, Dr. Dana Gaddy (Dr. Larry Suva) and son, Jay Kim Gaddy (Lisa), all of Little Rock; sister, Winnie Shaver of Sherwood; brother, Marcus Dewayne Jones (Ola) of Thornton; and sister, Margaret West of Ocean Springs, Miss. Emily also had 6 grandchildren: Megan Kurten, as well as Justin, Jack and Jules Gaddy, and Megan (Suva-Urwin) Johnson and Jack Suva-Urwin; and one great-grandchild, Olive Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful for the compassion and care that Emily was given during her stay at the West Markham (Highlands) Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 1 p.m. until service time at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel with a memorial service at 2 p.m., officiated by Brian Caldwell in the chapel of the Benton Funeral Home, 501 W. 4th St., Fordyce, AR 71742.
