Sharon (Sue) Bengtson, 73, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2015 at Christus St. Vincent's Hospital after losing a long battle with COPD and Pneumonia. Sue had been a resident of Santa Fe for 34 years. Sue was born on February 9, 1942 in Garfield, Arkansas, the fifth of six children of Austin D. and Ola B. Cline. Sue graduated from high school in Rogers, Arkansas and attended two years of Business school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She moved back to Garfield and started working with the National Park Service at Pea Ridge National Military Park in 1965. In 1978 she met and fell in love with Alan Bengtson, who was working as a Civil Engineer in NPS Southwest Regional Office in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They were married in 1981 in Tulsa. She resigned from her job at Pea Ridge and the two moved to Santa Fe. Sue returned to work with the National Park Service in 1983 and retired in 1993 as a Budget Specialist. In her retirement, Sue travelled with her husband as a volunteer to various jobsites at National Park Service sites throughout the Southwest. Sue was a very out-going and talented person, who deeply touched the lives of all who knew her. Sue is survived by her loving husband, Alan; her loving son, Kevin Singer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and her sister, Peggy Boling of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews form California to Florida. Memorial Services will be on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, N.M. and again on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Garfield Baptist Church, Garfield, Arkansas. Sue will be laid to rest at the Ruddick Cemetery on State Highway 127 in Garfield immediately following the memorial service at the Garfield Baptist Church. Local arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.
