Virgie M. Ingram, 96, of Fort Smith, passed from this life July 11, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born May 2, 1919 in Pocola, Okla. to the late Jesse and Bertha Carlisle Steelman. She grew up in Greenwood, Ark. and moved to Fort Smith in 1948 with her husband, George and their three children. She worked at Okla Homer Smith, Baldor, from where she retired and Cowan Jewelry. She was a member of 46th Street Church of Christ. Known by so many simply as "Granny", she was known for the large garden she grew every year. She loved the process of picking and canning fruits and vegetables and always enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Some of her most loved were her dumplings, macaroni and cheese, dump devil's food cake, coconut pie, Italian cream cake, and the best green beans around. Virgie was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed quilting and sewing. She is survived by her son, Dr. George Ingram and his wife, Becky of Fayetteville, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Beverly Ingram; her grandchildren: Cami Stancil and her husband, Bill of Greenwood, Ark., Renee Embry of Charlotte, N.C., Jim Ingram and his wife, Paige of Fort Smith, Ark., Sonya Embry of Broken Arrow, Okla., Lani Senyard and husband, Roy of Tulsa, Okla., LeAnn Wells and husband, Bob of Sallisaw Okla., and Kim Landers and husband, Steve of Fort Gibson, Okla.; her great-grandchildren: Dalton and Thad Stancil; Zach, Brecken and Jake Ingram; and Gabe and Londyn Senyard, Rachel and Robin Wells, Kyle Cole, and Cali Landers; niece, Charlotte Lee of Fort Smith. Virgie was also preceded in death by her husband, George Ingram; her son, Alvis Ingram; her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Verlin Embry. She is additionally survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and close family and friends who will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Hagenbuch officiating. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2015 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Her great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
