Jack Clopton Owen

Jack Clopton Owen died peacefully on July 13, 2015. He was born September 4, 1920 in Evansville, Mississippi, to Bessie Ingram and Francis Asbury Owen. He was a graduate of Blytheville High School, a veteran of World War II, and a graduate of LSU School of Banking. Mr. Owen was a banker for over 40 years, was on the board of the Arkansas Bankers Association, and was Chairman of Group I of the ABA. He served on the Board of Trustees of Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. He served as President of the Newport Rotary Club, President of the Newport Chamber of Commerce, and a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Pandora Whitworth Owen; two brothers, Frank and James; two sisters, Carrie Mae and Ruth; and his parents. He is survived by daughter, Pamela, one sister-in-law, 10 nieces, five nephews, and many cousins. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Newport First United Methodist Church with Rev. Thompson Murray and Rev. Ben Jordan officiating. "Thank you" is inadequate for the care and kindness shown by everyone at Lindley Healthcare and by Betsy Ashcraft Walker. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Newport.
