Charles Edward Knowlton

Charles Edward (Ed) Knowlton age 69, died in his home in Sherwood on July 17, 2015. Ed Knowlton was an extraordinarily smart and talented man. He never thought a project was too big or task was too hard for him to accomplish. During his lifetime Ed Knowlton accomplished many things including: serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, building a two story Log house from a stand of trees, running his own business, excelling professionally in computers, and as a public speaker in Toast Masters, working thousands of volunteer hours, and raising six children who he loved deeply. Professionally Ed Knowlton worked as a data systems programmer and analyst for several companies including AR Farm Bureau and IBM. After his retirement from IBM, he studied gardening, photography and Spanish and put those skills to work in various volunteer activities. He spent many happy hours working as a volunteer photographer at the Central Arkansas VA Hospitals, St. Anne Catholic Church and for the North Little Rock High School Football Program. Ed also volunteered many hours as a coach for younger athletes in swimming, soccer, basketball, and football. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Carrol Ann Hicks, his children Kimberley Knowlton, Kevin Knowlton, Krystal Lockhart and her husband Chris Lockhart, Kris Knowlton and his wife Michelle Knowlton, Elizabeth Dulong Scott and her husband Jimmy Scott, and Hobbs Edward Knowlton; nine grandchildren; Ross Price, Hope Price, Tristan Knowlton, Christian Lockhart, Chris (Andrew) Lockhart, Isaac Knowlton, Isabella Lockhart, Macy Knowlton, Ava Knowlton and two sisters, Mary and her husband Fred Dierks of Tennessee and Linda Watts of Maumelle. He is predeceased by his sister Betty Ann (Betsy) De Ras and brother Tom Knowlton and his parents Martha Lucille and Rex Knowlton. The family will greet visitors at the Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home located at 1921 Main Street, North Little Rock, Ark. 72114, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, with a Rosary service to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church on, July 22, at 9:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery located at 1501 West Maryland Ave., North Little Rock, Ark. 72120. The family wishes to extend a heart felt Thank You to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Central Arkansas VA Hospitals who not only provided excellent medical care but were always positive and caring.
