Verlene Rae Schafer, 45, passed away on July 25, 2015 at her home in Cedar City, Utah from causes incident to cancer. Verlene was born January 22, 1970, in Pueblo, Colorado. She graduated from Taylorsville High School in Taylorsville, Utah, Southern Utah University and the University of Arizona, with a Masters in Library Science (MLS). She served an LDS mission in the Finland, Helsinki East Mission in 1991-2. She and her companion were the first sister missionaries to serve in Estonia. Verlene loved her family, and we love and miss her. She was the Director of Library Media Services at SUU and loved her profession and co-workers. She loved books, writing and sharing her interests in genealogy, crocheting and babying her cats. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Bonnie M. and Wyman H. Satchel, brothers, Victor (Emma) Schafer, Vernal Schafer, Valden (Susan) Schafer, Warren Satchel, Wray Satchel, Wynn (Rebecca) Satchel, SSgt. Wade (Heather) Satchel, and close friend Christopher Clark, sisters, Vintah (Ross) Montoya, Vivian (Travis) Taylor, Alina (Jeff) Dunn, Carol (Brice) McGlothin, Cinnamon (Shane) Akins, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins whom she dearly loved. She is preceded in death by her grandparents. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at West Hills Chapel (1650 West Center, Cedar City, Utah). A Viewing will be from 9-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the church under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
