Bob Coleman

Bob Coleman passed away June 4th with his family by his side. Mr. Coleman was born in Memphis, Tenn. on February 8, 1933 to Robert E. and Rubye (Wright) Coleman. As a young boy he lived in Gurdon and then moved to Arkadelphia during the war and graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 1951. He enrolled in Henderson State Teacher's College in the fall of 1951. While in college he was an active member of ROTC that led to a commission of 2nd Lieutenant. As a freshman at Henderson he received a bid from Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity and was a loyal lifelong member. After graduating from college he spent six months in active duty and 7 ½ years in the active reserve where he reached the rank of Captain. In 1960 he started his career in mortgage banking with Charles F. Curry & Company. He began as a field representative and was promoted to Branch Manager in Joplin, Missouri two years later. During his seven years in Joplin, he opened up two sub branches, one in Springfield, Mo. and the other in Fayetteville, Ark. Mr. Coleman relocated to the Little Rock office where he assumed eighty percent of the state, but in 1982 left to pursue an offer with Union Modern Mortgage Company. He served as Executive Vice President of Union National Bank and President of their mortgage company, union Modern Mortgage. After retirement he and his wife moved to Hot Springs, Ark. where he continued to work part time for his son, a real estate attorney in Little Rock and was also very active in Henderson State University alumni affairs, serving as president of the Alumni Association for several years. Mr. Coleman was partly responsible for creating those organizations in Little Rock, Hot Springs and Texarkana, Ark. where he continued to be a driving force in this endeavor. Bob is survived by his loving wife Martha of 54 years, his daughter Kathy and son-in-law Richard Jones of Fort Smith, son Robert Sidney Coleman Jr. of Maumelle and daughter Marianna Coleman also of Maumelle. Two granddaughters Breese Jones and Layne Coleman. Two Grandsons Robert Sidney Coleman, III (R.J.) and Collin Funderburg. Cousin Charlotte McPheeters, and two nieces, Wendy Carbo and Samantha McInnis. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel.
