Robert "Bob" Thornton Alguire, age 77, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, died June 6, 2015 in Fayetteville. He was born August 5, 1937, in Littlefield, Texas, the son of Robert Pierce and Linnie Bea Thornton Alguire. He was preceded in death by his father. He graduated with a B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1960; he received his commission as Second Lieutenant from the U. S. Army at the same time. He was stationed in West Germany until November 1963. He returned to the University of Oklahoma and received both M. S. and Ph. D degrees in civil engineering. He worked at Tinker AFB as a tool design engineer and obtained his private pilot's license. From 1976 to 1998 he was on the College of Engineering faculty at the University of Arkansas and spent 23 years specializing in transportation engineering; he was active throughout the state and locally with transportation planning. As a leader in the Transportation Advisory Committee, he promoted the recently completed construction of the Fulbright Expressway Flyover in Fayetteville which is often referred to as "Alguire's Boomerang." He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Alguire; his mother, Linnie Alguire of Dallas, Texas; step-daughter, Gwynne Darden and her husband Patrick of Athens, Georgia; his two daughters, Christopher Alguire of Austin, Texas, Courtney Weaver and her husband Thomas of Manchaca, Texas; and his son, James Alguire and his wife Deanna of Little Rock, Arkansas; his sister, Judith Williams of Dallas, Texas; his brother, Richard Alguire and wife Diane of Hopewell Junction, New York; and three grandchildren, Jess, Macy, and Ella Alguire. He has many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Memorial contributions may be made to, 7hills, P.O.
