Jacque Peterson died Tuesday, June 8 at St. Vincent in Little Rock. She was born July 21, 1931 in Charleston, Ark. where she grew up, and in high school met and later married her high school sweetheart, Sherman Peterson, son of the local Methodist minister. She was state secretary for Future Homemakers of America in high school and after college gave motivational speeches to FHA groups throughout the state. She attended Arkansas Tech before graduating with honors from Henderson State, where she served in the Student Senate and was president of the Home Economics Club. The students at Henderson voted her Most Congenial, along with future Senator David Pryor. She was a cheerleader and played varsity basketball at Charleston High and also at Tech. One summer Jacque was a wardrobe assistant traveling with the Hormel Girls, who entertained crowds with song and dance throughout the Northeast. She was one of three college students nationally to receive the National Homemakers Degree and was selected to Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. She taught high school Home Economics in Arkansas at Hughes, Charleston, Siloam Springs, at the Arkansas School for the Blind and at Booker Jr. High in Little Rock. Jacque was an avid reader and a book club member in Conway, where she and Sherman lived from 1986 to 2011. She enjoyed quilting for many years for her children and grandchildren and participated in quilting shows. She was a board member and fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation and a Sunday School teacher. She was a lifelong Methodist and held several positions within the church throughout the years. Jacque was preceded in death by her husband (married June 12, 1954) of 59 years, Sherman; parents, L.A. "Jack" Floyd and Verna Sharp Floyd; and brothers, Davis (Joyce) Floyd and Jerry (Annette, surviving) Floyd. She is survived by brother Don (Betty [deceased], Monty) Floyd; children, Brent (Capi), Kimberly (Craig) Smith, Kevin (Sherry), and Scott (Anna); and grandchildren, Sydney, Shelby, Catherine, Sarah, Rebekah, Jacob and Rachel; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to all the caregivers at Brookdale at Chenal Heights and to Jacque's cousin, Sue Woods; and, to Lou Green, her college roommate. Both were by her side over the years helping whenever needed. Instead of flowers donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, First United Methodist of Conway, Trinity United Methodist in LR or the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Little Rock, Ark. with an inurnment service at Charleston United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m., June 13, 2015. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roller Chenal, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark.
