Maureen Bevill

M.J. Maureen Bevill, age 94 of Conway, Ark. passed away June 7th, 2015 at Springhill Baptist Medical Center. She was born on May 5th, 1921, in Arboe, County Tyrone, N. Ireland to Joseph and Mary Quinn. During World War II, Maureen was employed by the Allied Command as a secretary. Maureen followed the Allied Command from Northern Ireland to England and finally to France as the Allied headquarters moved with the front lines. While stationed in France, Maureen lived in Paris, took the train to work and eat lunch in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. During a trip to Switzerland for vacation she met her future husband, Elihu Bevill, a U.S. Airman who was stationed in Germany. They married on June 6, 1948 and enjoyed a life filled with hard work and laughter while raising five children and moving from base to base; finally settling in Arkansas. Maureen was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church of Jacksonville, Ark. and enjoyed knitting and sewing for others. During the past few years she donated pillowcases that she had hemmed by hand to Arkansas Children's Hospital through Angels for Angela Pillowcase Ministry. Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, Elihu Bevill, brothers John, Raymond and Larry Quinn. Maureen is survived by five children: LTC Mike Bevill (ret), of Jacksonville; Ark.; Kathy (Geri) Berkenstock, of Elizabethtown, Ind.; Susan Burton, of Conway, Ark.; Pat (Terrie) Bevill of Houston, Texas; and Kenny (Lisa) Bevill, of Camden, Ark. She is also survived by: Ivan (Dawn) daughters Anelise and Elena Berkenstock; Traci (Chad) sons Carl and Nathan Kroger; Michaela (Javier) Ramirez; Jase (Kelsey) and daughter Cali Burton; LTJG Anna (John) Middleton; Aaron Bevill; Jon Bevill; and Marissa (Brandon) Thorne. She was looking forward to the birth of her sixth great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathleen Cope, Rosaleen McAleer, sister-in-law, Jean Quinn and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 1610 Prince St., Conway, Arkansas with the Rev. Michael Roberts officiating.
