Sedrick Mays

Sedrick Louis Mays, 53, of Little Rock received his calling on June 20, 2015. At the age of 16 he began to develop a strong desire for cooking. He worked in various food establishments some in which he managed. While under his management , some of those establishments experienced rapid growth. Sedrick finally realized his opportunity to fulfill his dream of owning his very own restaurant at the age of 23. In 1985 he opened "The Kitchen Express Inc" serving soul food to thousands. He served 30 years as owner, founder and CEO of Kitchen Express. At heart he was a risk taker, and a prestigious leader. Sedrick lead by example, he encouraged hard work and always set forth a platform to create future business owners. Sedrick served in many capacities to various organizations thru out the city of Little Rock and was voted businessman of the year by the Chamber of Commerce for his service, leadership and outstanding commitment to the community. Sedrick instilled work ethics, promptness and excellence in their service to others. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 19 years, Kathy Frazier-Mays, seven sisters, Delois Carswell of Jacksonville, Fla.; Esther Marie Bailey of Greenwood, Miss., Joyce Morgan of North Little Rock; Patricia Ross of Canton, Ga.; Vera Bates (Herron) Maumelle, Ark.; Caron Beasley of Augusta, Ga., Jacqueline Mullins (Tommie) of Little Rock; three brothers, John Mays of Little Rock; Dewayne Mays (Jarldine) of Lincoln, Neb., and Frederick Mays (Melinda) of Indianapolis, Ind.; Aunt Marie Howse of Bronx, N.Y., mother-in-law, Margaret Frazier-Highsmith (Fred) of Camden, Ark. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. The family will receive friends Friday June 26, 2015 from 6 til 8 p.m. and the funeral services will be Saturday June 27, 1 p.m. with both services held at Eighth Street Baptist Church, 901 S.A.
