Herman Bentley Harrison, the eldest of five children of Lizzie Lee (Nixon) and Clarence Herman Harrison, was born May 9, 1930 in Greenbrier, Arkansas and passed on to the Lord February 26, 2015 in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon graduating from North Little Rock High School, Herman worked for Kroger until entering service to his country by joining the Navy and serving aboard the USS Pine Island during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Navy, Herman met and married Katherine Louise Harrell on May 24, 1952 in Benton, Arkansas. Two daughters were born to this union, Dorinda Lou and Deborah Lee. Also prominent in his life was his devoted niece Jilletta (Dave) Winholt. Believing education a requisite to personal fulfillment, Herman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Herman spent his working career providing electrical/instrumentation engineering to General Dynamics and The Boeing Company. This career caused Herman and family to be company vagabonds of sorts living in many states. Herman retired from Boeing and returned to Jacksonville, Arkansas. Herman is survived by the immediate family of sisters, Marilyn (R.M.) Foster of North Little Rock, Ark., Ruth (Joseph) Harrell of Jacksonville, Ark.; daughters Deborah (Kenneth) Weinberg of Memphis, Tenn., Dorinda (James) Jenkins of Edgewood Wash.; grandchildren Adam (Alaina) Whitt of Washington DC, Amy (Gene) Leal of Puyallup, Wash., Milton (Cassie) Tompkins of Puyallup, Wash., Shannon (John) Addison of Tacoma, Wash., Sydney Jenkins of Edgewood, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Avery Leal, Brannon and Bailey Tompkins, and Sarah and Emma Addison. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine and brothers Wendell and George Edward. Herman will be remembered as a soft spoken, gentle man with a huge caring for his family and friends. He was a consummate reader on many topics. He loved the Lord and enjoyed the fellowship of his church. He walked humbly with his God. He will be missed dearly, by many and forever. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. at Cross Roads Free Will Baptist Church, 4201 W. Main Street, Jacksonville, Ark. 72076.
