David Eugene Fortenberry

David Eugene Fortenberry passed away at his home early Thursday morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Dermott, Ark., Nov. 15, 1947, to Bennie Rachel Isom and David Anderson Fortenberry and grew up in the Watson and Kelso area. David is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sue Grantham Fortenberry; three sons, Greg Fortenberry of Stuttgart, Jeremy (Amber) Fortenberry of Coal Hill and James (Penny) Merritt of Stuttgart; one daughter, Valerie (Curtis) Yancey of Casscoe; eight grandchildren, Taylor Fortenberry, Jenna Fortenberry, Amerey Fortenberry, C.J. Fortenberry, Elaina (Bryce) Sims, Sarah Mitchell, Chandler Merritt and Chase Merritt; and one great-granddaughter, Eden Sims. He is also survived by his brothers, Tommy Fortenberry, Billy Fortenberry, Terry (Angie) Fortenberry and Martin Fortenberry; and one sister, Pam Martin. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Ted Edmondson, at 2 p.m. Sunday at Almyra United Methodist Church with burial following in Almyra Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home.
